Research With Data
Research & Evaluation of Secure Data Environments
Secure Data Environments (SDEs) are being developed for regional integrated care systems across the UK. They provide national and sub-national infrastructure for conducting research with health and care data. SDEs will provide access for the safe, secure and ethical sharing of health records and associated data, for doing research and health-tech development.
By providing infrastructure to support the sharing of health and care data, there are huge possibilities for enhancing health and care services, and for enabling patient-involved care.
There is a Secure Data Environment (SDE) development programme for the North East and North Cumbria region.
NortHFutures researchers will contribute to this programme by conducting user-centred design research and testing during the SDE development programme.
Adopting a case study approach, NortHFutures researchers will study the design and development of data architectures and user interfaces, aiming to understand the access and literacy needs of diverse stakeholders and end users of this new research data repository for our region.
Through this work, we will also consider what potential technology applications could enhance collaborative research with data, to inform the SDE development.
This work is being led by Abigail Durrant (Newcastle University) and Paolo Missier (University of Birmingham) with Mark Walsh (Health Innovation NENC).
