We have collated the frequently asked questions regarding the Training Funding Call and our answers.
For all the key information about the call, please check the dedicated web page: https://www.northfutures.org/opportunities/training-funding/
We would like to apply for funding to create training video content and other resources. If successful, who would own the IP?
The IP would be owned by the creator. We only ask that the content is freely accessible. This can either mean that you will let the content remain free for everyone to access for an undefined period of time, or you can specify the length in your application. Once the time is up, you are free to put the resources behind a paywall.
Please remember that we will evaluate value for money for all applications and length of access to training materials such as training videos would be a consideration in this.
I’m organising a conference/event related to digital health. Am I eligible for the funding?
Yes, as long as you meet the requirements of the funding call. Most importantly, the training must be free at the point of access. If your event is ticketed, you could apply for funding for a certain number of tickets and then offer them to applicants for free.
I am a care provider already receiving digital skills training from a third party and I am looking for follow-up funding. Can I apply?
Yes! Given the framing of the call – funding training offers – it would be best if you asked your training provider to apply for funding and specify that it is for your organisation. That way, you can be included in the application and directly respond to your specific training needs.
I’m applying on behalf of a university, but this call isn’t a research grant. Why can’t I apply for 100% of economic costs?
While we have framed the award process as a tender, the funding is provided by the NortHFutures grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), which was awarded to us at 80% of the full economic cost (FEC). Higher education institutions and NHS organisations which are eligible for EPSRC funding can therefore also apply for funding at the standard 80% FEC rate and cover the 20% shortfall.
Does the funding cover training development as well as delivery?
Yes, we are happy to fund development. Please note that we will want to see delivery as well and will assess the application on value for money.
My organisation is a partner of/close to the NortHFutures Hub. Are we still eligible for funding?
Yes. Please just make sure to declare any conflicts of interest in your application. We will make sure to manage them during the funding award process.
We are an SME hoping to apply with another commercial partner. Is that okay?
Yes, just work them into your application and costings.
What do you mean by good geographic reach across the NENC region?
In general, we are keen to expand the reach of the funded training beyond Newcastle into rural, coastal, and other digitally excluded areas. This is closely related to the value-for-money assessment. We will emphasise geographic reach more in case of applications asking for higher amounts of funding.
