NortHFutures Digital Surgical Pathways Workshops FAQs

Find out more about what to expect during and after our workshops, and information about the venue.

The workshop

Q. How long is the workshop?

The workshop is one day, starting at 9am and finishing at 5pm.

We will share a more detailed agenda with you prior to the workshop.

Q. Will I need to prepare anything before attending?

No, you will not need to prepare anything in advance.

You may like to chat to colleagues in your organisation, so that you can represent their views - but it's not essential.

Q. Who else will be at the workshop?

Our workshops will have a balance of researchers (from students to Professors), representitives from commerical organisations, NHS workforce, and a range of Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise organisations.

There will be approximately 15 participants at each workshop.

Q. Do I need to bring a laptop?

It is not essential to bring a laptop. If you chose to bring one, the venue has free wifi available throughout the building.

But if you would prefer to have an 'unplugged' day, you will not be disadvantaged.

Q. What will happen at the workshop?

During the morning we will introduce the group to the theme, unpick the challenge areas, and get to know each other. We will also talk through the agenda for the day and highlight the key outcomes for the day.

Throughout the sessions, the group will discuss ideas and start to identify ideas to explore further in the afternoon in smaller groups.

By the end of the day, the project teams will be formed and initial research proposals will be agreed.

Q. What will happen after the workshop?

After the workshop, the teams will have time to develop their ideas into a proposal that will be submitted to the NortHFutures team.

We know that developing bids and running research projects can be complicated, so each project team will be assigned a NortHFutures mentor to guide them through the pre and post award stages and offer advice in:

  • Costing your proposal
  • Ethical approval
  • Research impact
  • Bid and report writing
  • Research evaluation

Q. Do I need to attend the full workshop?

Yes, we would prefer that you attend the full workshop to maximise the amount of time that we will have together as a group.

However, we know that life is not always predictable and straighforward - so if you have concerns about the time commitment, please reach out to the NortHFutures team.

The Catalyst

Q. Is The Catalyst easily accessible by public transport or on foot?

Yes, the nearest Metro station is St James' Park, and Monument station is about a fifteen minute walk away from the building.

If you are walking from the city centre, head towards St. James’ Stadium and then pass between the Sandman Hotel and the blue building (with a small Tesco at the bottom)

Q. Is there nearby parking available?

Yes

  • There are some Disabled Badge parking spaces outside the building
  • The “Garage” multi-story car park on the Helix site – please note it is not easy to find! (what3words is wooden.piper.boot)
  • St. James’ stadium car parking (the three-storey car park on the left as you drive in from Barrack Road)
  • On-road parking at Pitt Street and Diana Street - note these quickly fill up, are pay and display, and capped at four hours

Q. Which room will the workshop be in, and how can I find it?

We will be in Electra - this is located on the first floor of the building and can be accessed by the stairs and by the lifts.

There will be signs to our workshop and the friendly staff on the Reception desk will also be able to guide you.

Q. Will there be quiet spaces available throughout the day?

Yes, The Catalyst has several quieter corners but we have also book an additional room, Derwent, should you need some quiet space.

We would ask that you don't use this space for phone calls or online calls as this may be disruptive to other users.

We will highlight where Derwent is located.
